Travel Accessory Checklist
Before you set off on a worldwide trip; make sure that you have packed the following:
- Wash bag, containing soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving items (if required), sanitary towels (if required), hair brush.
- Medical bag.
- Towel: can also double as a pillow, cushion or blanket.
- Travel pillow: one of the most under-estimated travel aids known to man. Surprisingly indispensable for the independent traveller.
- Torch and batteries.
- Compass.
- Whistle.
- Toilet paper.
- Padlock.
- Maps. Make sure you buy these before you go. Some guidebooks have sufficient maps.
- Guidebooks.
- Personal reading. Do not over-load yourself with reading material, but take at least one of your favourite books that you can read over and over again. Books are a good item to swap with fellow travellers.
- Writing material and notebook.
- Swiss Army knife.
- Candles.
- Small sewing kit.
- Hat: wide-brimmed for hot climates, woollen for cold.
- 'Grippa' bags: small re-sealable bags for keeping passports and the such like dry and clean.
- String and cord.
- Matches.
- Mosquito net.
- Mosquito coils.
- Stock of presents. These can consist of a variety of small items such as postcards, stickers, badges, biros and disposable cigarette lighters.
- Elastic bands.
- Safety pins.
Optional
- Waterproofs.
- Hair-drier. Some people cannot travel without them.
- Adaptor.
- Cassette player or Walkman.
- Dental floss - can double as string or thread in an emergency.
- Sleeping roll - can be bulky and it may be better to get used to sleeping on the ground.
- Travel iron.
- Photographs.
