Choosing the Right Camping Equipment
For the experienced camper the idea of taking a tent abroad is a good option. For the novice it is a better idea to stick to the proliferation of youth hostels, lodging houses and cheap hotels which you will come across.
If you are going to camp - and bear in mind a tent is a bulky and relatively heavy item to carry around the world - you will have to look at a number of questions:
- Are there campsites where I am going and if so where are they?
- Will I be camping at high altitude or sea-level?
- What type of insects/wild animals are there in the area in which I intend to camp?
- Will I be camping all the time or only occasionally?
- Will I be camping on my own or with others?
- What types of weather can I expect?
The type of tent used will depend on the answers to these questions. Ultimately you will want something that is both strong and light. Three companies who specialise in a wide range of tents are:
