Wedding Invitations
Whatever the style of wedding invitation and however grand or simple the wedding, there is some essential information you need to include:
- Details of what you plan to provide at the reception or evening reception - a formal meal, hot or cold buffet or just canapes and drinks
- If there is to be dancing or any other entertainment (this is where you tell them if they need salsa lessons or invite them to bring their trombone and take part in the cabaret).
- What to wear (only if it's something unusual or you expect everybody to be in morning dress).
- Details of accommodation with phone numbers, websites and prices.
- A map.
- Flight information if you're getting married abroad.
Formal Invitation to the Wedding
The usual wording is in the third person and the reply should be written in the same style. See Below

A Formal Reply
A formal reply is given below:
| Mr and Mrs John Jones thank Mr and Mrs Bloggs for their kind invitation to their daughter's wedding and reception and will be most happy to attend. |
These examples are as formal as it gets, and you can deformalise them as much as you want. Take a look around at different wording styles in the stationery catalogues and see what you feel comfortable with.
Informal Invitations
If you're hosting your own wedding, getting married for the second time, or you just prefer to be informal, you might go for something more like the example below:
