Hotel and Catering Jobs Abroad

At one end of the spectrum there are casual jobs to be found in hotels and restaurants in Europe, Australia, or the Americas, particularly during the holiday season - at both ski resorts and summer resorts. Such jobs are not hard to find but you could face long working hours during the height of the season for low remuneration.

The speculative approach is as good a way as any of landing such jobs, but it makes sense to fix up your employment prior to your arrival. Certain agencies, such as Jobs in the Alps and Job Centres, recruit for the hospitality sector, and job advertisements in this sector occur from time to time in British newspapers and Overseas Jobs Express.

At the other end of the spectrum there are management posts in top rated international hotels throughout the world. Many of these belong to major hotels chains, such as Hilton, Inter-Continental, Sheraton, Hyatt, but these are definitely only for qualified professionals.

There are also good opportunities world wide in institutional catering. Opportunities exist with the major hospital groups operating in the Middle East, with oil and gas companies abroad, in construction camps, on merchant ships and cruise liners.

Jobs abroad are advertised regularly in Caterer & Hotelkeeper and other specialist publications. Alternatively you might shoot off speculative applications to one of the large international chains, such as Holiday Inn or Hilton International. Or you might look at www.voovs.com website.

National tourist offices can often supply lists of hotels in specified resorts for you to contact, while tourist information bureaux at resorts may be able to put you in touch with hotels that you require.
